Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital

During the Second World War, when tuberculosis (tuberculosis) was widespread, Naki KÖSTEM, one of the PTT General Managers, was diagnosed with this disease and required treatment. Although he had a wide circle of physicians, he had problems with inpatient treatment due to the lack of available beds in sanatoriums due to the high number of patients. Seeing that there were many patients with tuberculosis like him in the PTT community, KÖSTEM took the initiative to ensure that the personnel of our organization were treated with their own means and started to look for an available place to provide health services. As a result, the 126.449 m2 land with a mansion belonging to the daughter of Müşir Gazi Ethem Pasha (where our hospital is currently located) was liked and purchased by the PTT General Directorate on 26.5.1945 for 265.000 TL.
In addition to the provision of health care services, our hospital, which also operates in the field of education, has been conducting medical specialty training since 1960. Between 1960 and 1976, only specialization in Internal Medicine was provided, but due to legislation, there were interruptions in medical specialty training until 1983. After 1983, as a result of the evaluation made by the jury sent by the Ministry of Health in accordance with the Medical Specialization Regulation, it was determined that our hospital has reached the physical structure that can specialize in all the branches it serves, and the training continues in Internal Diseases, Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Radiology, Infectious Diseases and Anesthesia branches where the training staff is completed.
