Istanbul Gaziosmanpaşa Training and Research Hospital

ALTINCI DAİRE-İ BELEDİYE MECRUHİN (WOUNDED) HOSPITAL, the first first aid hospital in Sıraselviler-Defterdar Hill region, was founded in 1875, after the reconstruction of an old and large wooden building on the site of the current Italian Hospital, with the money collected in a lottery (1). The hospital, which moved to a rented house near the Russian Consulate after the 1893 fire, tried to move back to its old place after the Russian consul complained about the events taking place around it, but this project could not be realized despite long efforts due to high costs (1). Thereupon, AĞAHAMAMI, located adjacent to the current land of our hospital, was first rented (1900), and then the land on the site of the Italian Hospital was sold and its ownership was taken in 1904. A new building with a capacity of 35 beds and an operating room were built in the garden of the acquired building (the area of our hospital is right in front of Ağahamam) (35,785 patients were treated here under the management of Dr. Isidor Greiwer and Nurse Augustine until 1906. After the Second Constitutional Monarchy, the name of the hospital was Beyoğlu Zükur (Men). It was transformed into a hospital and served mostly INJURED male patients (1).

The hospital, which was evacuated by the French during the occupation of Istanbul (November 1918-October 1923) and given to soldiers and Russian immigrants, later became the Rabies Treatment Station (Haim Naum worked here in 1937-1938) and its operating room was first moved to a rented building in Çapa and then to Şişli. It was moved to and was again used only for men (1). In the telephone records of Cihangir District from 1929, the name of Beyoğlu Zükur (Men's) Hospital is also included among the telephones on Sıraselviler Street (2). In 1938, the name of our hospital was changed to Beyoğlu First Aid Hospital (1). In 1949, it was decided by the Şemsettin GÜNALTAY Government to build a 50-BED FIRST AID HOSPITAL and SANITARY EMERGENCY STATION in its current location (3). A FIRST AID SERVICE with a capacity of 75 beds was opened in 1950 (1). Prof.Dr., who is famous worldwide for his great studies in the field of Leukemia and Mediterranean Anemia. Dentistry and Pediatrics started outpatient treatment. The polyclinics were later (1974) transferred to the additional building built in front of the main building. The name of the hospital was changed to Taksim (First Aid) Hospital in 1976, and to Taksim (First Aid) Training and Research Hospital in 1986 by increasing the number of training clinics.
