The hospital, located in Bahçelievler on the E-5 Highway, is one of the first two rehabilitation centers of the Ministry of Health in our country, with a bed capacity of 263 in 2012. Its construction was completed in 1979 and the first of 3 blocks, each of 2000 m2, was put into service in 1980 with 50 beds. In 1990, the second block and in 1994, the new section, C Block, became a full-fledged hospital to serve Bosnian-Herzegovinian people injured in the Yugoslavian civil war, and served Bosnian-Herzegovinian war veterans and injured civilians for three years. He compassionately rehabilitated the war wounded and gained historical value with this active role. In 1993, the Hospital was named "70th Year Istanbul Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Center". In October 2001, it received the title of training hospital and was named "Istanbul 70th Year Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital". With the letter of the Provincial Health Directorate dated 16.02.2007 and numbered 1831, the name of our hospital was changed to "Istanbul Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital". Our chief assistants, who were trained in our hospital with their strong staff and knowledge, were assigned as academic staff to Bakırköy Sadi Konuk FTR, GOP FTR and finally Çam-Sakura FTR hospitals.

The process of moving to Bahçelievler State Hospital, which was opened as of April 2014, and to the areas defined for our hospital, has been completed. The construction of the new building, which started at the end of 2014, was moved and started active service on June 6, 2022. Our new hospital was opened in Bahçelievler, on 65 decares of land with a closed area of 102,000 m2, with a bed capacity of 400 beds, which can be expanded to 665 qualified beds, consisting of 5 blocks of inpatient services. Our hospital, which has examination and treatment areas in 4 blocks consisting of 19 VIP rooms, 16 single rooms, 314 double rooms, 5 operating rooms, 6-bed intensive care unit and 25-bed palliative care unit, is the largest rehabilitation hospital in Turkey and Europe. In our country, there is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital center for disabled children affiliated with our Ministry of Health. For the rehabilitation of our children in all disability groups in our independent block of 87 beds with all high-tech equipment and inpatient and outpatient pediatric rehabilitation planned at Istanbul Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital; In addition to modern applications such as space therapy and robotic rehabilitation, treatment programs such as ergotherapeutic approaches, occupational therapies and hydrotherapy applications and sensory integration have been planned for our children to help them improve themselves in kitchen skills that will give them independence in daily life activities. Our love doctors (clown activities), who have been with us since 2015, are still with our children and continue to support rehabilitation.

We continue to receive acute-subacute neurorehabilitation patients, which is one of the main duties of our hospital. Currently, swallowing, breathing and speech rehabilitations for patients newly discharged from intensive care with mechanical ventilation, pegs and tracheostomy are routinely performed in our hospital. Our units will continue to be enlarged further. Apart from the existing 2 walking and 1 hand robots, it is planned to increase the number of robots in our robotic rehabilitation unit in the new hospital.

In our Orthosis and Prosthesis Workshop in our new hospital, we take the patient down from his bed and apply the measurements and tests in the new workshop structured in an area of 1000 m2, to be performed on our patients in need. In our video-urodynamics laboratory, our patients are diagnosed and followed up by our experienced team. Training, treatment and examination are carried out in our Electro-physiology laboratory, which consists of EEG and EMG. An experimental research laboratory was established in our hospital.
