Yedikule Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Training and Research Hospital was built in 1905. As one of the leading chest hospitals of our country, the Hospital mainly served tuberculosis patients from 1950 to the 2000s. The hospital added a new building to its structure in 1963 in order to meet the demands and expectations of its patients in the best way possible with the increasing number of patients day by day.
Yedikule Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery EAH, which was transferred to the status of a special branch training hospital by the Ministry of Health in 1970, started to train chest diseases assistants in the same year.
In the last quarter of 1980, Yedikule Thoracic Diseases and Thoracic Surgery EAH started to provide health services to non-tuberculosis pulmonary patients and added "Thoracic Surgery Center" to its name with the opening of the thoracic surgery clinic in 1981. In the post-2000 period, the hospital mostly provided health services for the treatment of diseases of the lungs and other organs in the thorax.
The hospital received ISO 9001/2000 International Quality Certificate in 2005 and started to represent our country in the international arena.
Yedikule Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery EAH added lung transplantation unit, chemotherapy unit and surgical intensive care unit to its service areas with its new building with a capacity of 200 beds, which started operations in 2011.
Working with a multidisciplinary approach to protect the health of individuals and society, Yedikule Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery EAH aims to provide innovative healthcare services to its patients with developing technologies. In this context, the Hospital added laboratories equipped with advanced technologies, respiratory intensive care unit, pulmonary rehabilitation unit and advanced bronchoscopy units to its new building in 2015.
"Heirloom of ancestors" Dr. İsmail Niyazi Kurtulmuş Hospital
Dr. İsmail Niyazi Kurtulmuş Hospital, which is the additional service building of Yedikule Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery EAH, was built in 1881 by Sultan Abdülhamid II. The hospital was used as a military hospital until 1985 and as a barracks until 2012. With the restoration project approved in 2019, steps were taken to put the building back into the service of the city; after 45 days of work by a restoration team of 500 people, it was put into the service of the public with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on May 31, 2020.
Dr. İsmail Niyazi Kurtulmuş Hospital, which started to serve within the scope of the fight against the new type of corona virus (Covid19) outbreak in the first place; With its 101 bed capacity, 59 intensive care beds and 42 patient beds, it shouldered the Covid-19 burden of other hospitals and made significant contributions to the fight against the epidemic.
Yedikule Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery EAH, which has been providing healthcare services with the same determination and enthusiasm for 73 years in order to make the healthiest touch to people's lives, is a huge family with 184 physicians, 353 nurses and 916 healthcare professionals. The hospital has 402 beds, 38 intensive care beds and 6 operating room tables.
Yedikule Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery EAH, which acts with the motto of providing qualified and quality service, established public relations and patient rights units in 2014. The hospital also provides patient guidance and information for patient accompaniment in order to assist patient relatives.

The Hospital, which has trained over 350 specialists in the field of thoracic diseases and thoracic surgery, keeps scientific health services at the highest level. The Hospital ranked 4th in Turkey in the Ministry of Health Public Hospitals Union Training and Research Hospitals 2012-2014 Scientific Publications ranking.
The hospital has brought more than 1,700 publications, research and studies to our country in total since 2019 and continues to do so under the scientific directorate of Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Sedat ALTIN.
Yedikule Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery EAH contributes to medical education and development by taking an active role in scientific studies such as congresses, symposiums and courses both in Turkey and abroad. The last Friday of May of each year is declared as "Yedikule Day" and scientific and social activities are organized on that day.
